New Zealand - DAY 4
HOME

The town of Whakatane is near the ocean, but looking inland yields a nice view of the volcano Putauaki. The second photo shows a view on the way to Opotiki which is the gateway to the eastern peninsula called Eastland. Photos 3 and 4 were taken in Opotoki. The last photo is of a Pohutukawa tree.

Waihau Bay was beautiful. In Whangaparoa, as in many east coast towns there are many maraes - Maori meeting places with religous overtones.

Before the town of Te Araroa there is also a marae. The middle photo illustrates reforestation. The 4th photo is of Hicks Bay. The last photo is of New Zealands largest biggest Pohutukawa tree, which is in Te Araroa..

These photos are an Anglican church in Tikitiki. This church combines the customary layout of an Anglican/Episcopal church with Maori decorations.

The first photo shows scenery before Waipiro. Waipiro Bay is shown in the middle photo. Notice the beautiful silvery tree. That species was quite common in this area. The last photo was taken as we were approaching Tolaga Bay.
